Num 18:1 The LORD said to Aaron, "You, your sons, and your family will be responsible for any sins against the holy place. You and your sons will also be responsible for any sins you commit when you work as priests.
Num 18:2 Bring the other Levites from your ancestor's tribe to join you and help you and your sons serve in front of the tent of the words of my promise.
Num 18:3 They will work for you, doing whatever work is necessary for the whole tent. But they must not come near the altar or the furnishings in the holy place, or they will die, and you will die, too.
Num 18:4 They will join you and do whatever work is necessary for the tent of meeting, including all the maintenance work for the tent. But no one else may come near you.
Num 18:5 "You must be in charge of the work done at the holy place and at the altar. Then I won't show my anger against the Israelites again.
Num 18:6 I have chosen the other Levites from among the Israelites to help you. They are a gift given to the LORD to do whatever work is necessary at the tent of meeting.
Num 18:7 Only you and your sons may do the work of priests-everything done at the altar and under the canopy. This is my gift to you: You may serve me as priests. Anyone else who comes near the holy place to do this work must die."
Num 18:8 The LORD said to Aaron, "I am putting you in charge of all the contributions given to me. I am giving you and your descendants all the holy gifts from the Israelites as your share. These contributions will always be yours.
Num 18:9 That part of the most holy offerings which is not burned belongs to you. It may come from a grain offering, an offering for sin, or a guilt offering. Whatever is brought to me as a most holy offering will belong to you and your sons.
Num 18:10 Eat it in a most holy place. Any male may eat it. You must consider it holy.
Num 18:11 "The contributions that come as gifts taken from the offerings presented by the Israelites are also yours. I am giving these to you, your sons, and your daughters. They will always be yours. Anyone in your household who is clean may eat them.
Num 18:12 "I am also giving you the first of the produce they give the LORD: the best of all the olive oil and the best of the new wine and fresh grain.
Num 18:13 The first of all produce harvested in their land that they bring to the LORD is yours. Anyone in your household who is clean may eat it.
Num 18:14 "Anything in Israel that is claimed by the LORD is yours.
Num 18:15 Every firstborn male, human or animal, that is brought to the LORD is yours. But you must buy back every firstborn son and the firstborn male of any unclean animal.
Num 18:16 When they are one month old, you must buy them back at the fixed price of two ounces of silver using the standard weight of the holy place.
Num 18:17 "But you must never buy back a firstborn ox, sheep, or goat. They are holy. Throw the blood from these animals against the altar, and burn the fat as an offering by fire, a soothing aroma to the LORD.
Num 18:18 But the meat is yours, like the breast and the right thigh that are presented.
Num 18:19 I am giving you, your sons, and your daughters all the holy contributions the Israelites bring to the LORD. These contributions will always be yours. It is an everlasting promise of salt in the LORD'S presence for you and your descendants."
Num 18:20 The LORD said to Aaron, "You will have no land or property of your own as the other Israelites will have. I am your possession and your property among the Israelites.
Num 18:21 "I am giving the Levites one-tenth of every Israelite's income. This is in return for the work they do at the tent of meeting.
Num 18:22 The other Israelites must never again come near the tent of meeting. Otherwise, they'll suffer the consequences of their sin and die.
Num 18:23 Only the Levites will do the work at the tent of meeting. They will be responsible for their own sins. This is a permanent law for future generations. They will own no property as the other Israelites will.
Num 18:24 Instead, I will give the Levites what the Israelites contribute to the LORD-one-tenth of the Israelites' income. This is why I said about them, 'They will own no property as the other Israelites do.'"
Num 18:25 The LORD said to Moses,
Num 18:26 "Speak to the Levites and say to them: You will take one-tenth of the Israelites' income which I'm giving you as your property. When you do, you must contribute one-tenth of that income as your contribution to the LORD.
Num 18:27 Your contribution will be considered to be grain from the threshing floor or juice from the winepress.
Num 18:28 So you, too, will contribute one-tenth of your income to the LORD out of all that you receive from the Israelites' income. You will give the LORD'S contribution to the priest Aaron.
Num 18:29 Out of all the gifts you receive, you must contribute the best and holiest parts to the LORD.
Num 18:30 "Also tell them: When you contribute the best part, your contribution will be considered to be produce from the threshing floor or winepress.
Num 18:31 So you and your households may eat it anywhere, because it's the wages you receive for your work at the tent of meeting.
Num 18:32 When you contribute the best part, you won't suffer the consequences of any sin. You won't be dishonoring the holy offerings given by the Israelites, and you won't die."
Num 18:2 Bring the other Levites from your ancestor's tribe to join you and help you and your sons serve in front of the tent of the words of my promise.
Num 18:4 They will join you and do whatever work is necessary for the tent of meeting, including all the maintenance work for the tent. But no one else may come near you.

Num 18:32 When you contribute the best part, you won't suffer the consequences of any sin. You won't be dishonoring the holy offerings given by the Israelites, and you won't die."
Num 1:1 The LORD spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the Desert of Sinai. It was the first day of the second month in the second year after leaving Egypt. He said,
Num 1:2 "Take a census of the whole community of Israel by families and households. List every man by name
Num 1:3 who is at least 20 years old. You and Aaron must register everyone in Israel who is eligible for military duty. List them by divisions.
Num 1:4 One man from each tribe will help you. Each of these men must be the head of a household.
Num 1:5 "Here are the names of the men who will help you: Elizur, son of Shedeur, from the tribe of Reuben;
Num 1:6 Shelumiel, son of Zurishaddai, from the tribe of Simeon;
Num 1:7 Nahshon, son of Amminadab, from the tribe of Judah;
Num 1:8 Nethanel, son of Zuar, from the tribe of Issachar;
Num 1:9 Eliab, son of Helon, from the tribe of Zebulun;
Num 1:10 Elishama, son of Ammihud, from the tribe of Ephraim; Gamaliel, son of Pedahzur, from the tribe of Manasseh; (Ephraim and Manasseh are Joseph's descendants.)
Num 1:11 Abidan, son of Gideoni, from the tribe of Benjamin;
Num 1:12 Ahiezer, son of Ammishaddai, from the tribe of Dan;
Num 1:13 Pagiel, son of Ochran, from the tribe of Asher;
Num 1:14 Eliasaph, son of Deuel, from the tribe of Gad;
Num 1:15 Ahira, son of Enan, from the tribe of Naphtali."
Num 1:16 These were the men chosen from the community, the leaders of their ancestors' tribes, and heads of the divisions of Israel.
Num 1:17 Moses and Aaron took the men who had been named
Num 1:18 and assembled the whole community on the first day of the second month. Each man at least 20 years old provided his genealogy by family and household. Then his name was listed.
Num 1:19 So Moses registered the men of Israel in the Desert of Sinai as the LORD had commanded him.
Num 1:20 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Reuben, Israel's firstborn son, listed every man by name who was at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:21 The total for the tribe of Reuben was 46,500.
Num 1:22 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Simeon registered and listed every man by name who was at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:23 The total for the tribe of Simeon was 59,300.
Num 1:24 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Gad listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:25 The total for the tribe of Gad was 45,650.
Num 1:26 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Judah listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:27 The total for the tribe of Judah was 74,600.
Num 1:28 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Issachar listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:29 The total for the tribe of Issachar was 54,400.
Num 1:30 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Zebulun listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:31 The total for the tribe of Zebulun was 57,400.
Num 1:32 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Joseph-those from Ephraim-listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:33 The total for the tribe of Ephraim was 40,500.
Num 1:34 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Manasseh listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:35 The total for the tribe of Manasseh was 32,200.
Num 1:36 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Benjamin listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:37 The total for the tribe of Benjamin was 35,400.
Num 1:38 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Dan listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:39 The total for the tribe of Dan was 62,700.
Num 1:40 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Asher listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:41 The total for the tribe of Asher was 41,500.

Num 1:43 The total for the tribe of Naphtali was 53,400.
Num 1:44 Moses, Aaron, and the 12 leaders of Israel, each representing his own family, added up these totals.
Num 1:45 So the Israelites were registered by households. The grand total of men who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty
Num 1:46 was 603,550.
Num 1:47 But the households from the tribe of Levi were not registered along with the other Israelites.
Num 1:48 The LORD had said to Moses,
Num 1:49 "Don't register the tribe of Levi or include them in the census with the other Israelites.
Num 1:50 Put the Levites in charge of the tent of God's words, including the equipment for the tent and everything else having to do with the tent. The Levites will carry the tent and all its equipment. They will take care of the tent and camp around it.
Num 1:51 When the tent has to be moved, the Levites will take it down. When we camp, they will set it up. Anyone else who comes near the tent will be put to death.
Num 1:52 "The other Israelites will camp with each family in its own area under its own flag.
Num 1:53 The Levites will camp all around the tent of God's words. In this way the LORD won't be angry with the community of Israel. So the Levites will be in charge of the tent of God's words."
Num 1:54 The Israelites did everything as the LORD commanded Moses.
Num 1:2 "Take a census of the whole community of Israel by families and households. List every man by name
Num 1:3 who is at least 20 years old. You and Aaron must register everyone in Israel who is eligible for military duty. List them by divisions.

Num 1:11 Abidan, son of Gideoni, from the tribe of Benjamin;
Num 1:12 Ahiezer, son of Ammishaddai, from the tribe of Dan;

Num 1:38 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Dan listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.
Num 1:39 The total for the tribe of Dan was 62,700.

Num 1:42 The roster of families and households for the descendants of Naphtali listed the men by name who were at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty.

Num 1:53 The Levites will camp all around the tent of God's words. In this way the LORD won't be angry with the community of Israel. So the Levites will be in charge of the tent of God's words."
Num 1:54 The Israelites did everything as the LORD commanded Moses.
Jos 1:2 "My servant Moses is dead. Now you and all these people must cross the Jordan River into the land that I am going to give the people of Israel.
Jos 1:3 I will give you every place on which you set foot, as I promised Moses.
Jos 1:4 Your borders will be the desert on the south, nearby Lebanon to the Euphrates River (the country of the Hittites) on the north, and the Mediterranean Sea on the west.
Jos 1:5 No one will be able to oppose you successfully as long as you live. I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will never neglect you or abandon you.
Jos 1:6 Be strong and courageous, because you will help these people take possession of the land I swore to give their ancestors.
Jos 1:8 Never stop reciting these teachings. You must think about them night and day so that you will faithfully do everything written in them. Only then will you prosper and succeed.
Jos 1:10 Then Joshua ordered the officers of the people,
Jos 1:11 "Go through the camp. Tell the people, 'Get your supplies ready. In three days you will cross the Jordan River to take possession of the land the LORD your God is going to give you.'"
Jos 1:12 Next, Joshua said to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh,
Jos 1:13 "Remember what the LORD'S servant Moses commanded you. Moses said, 'The LORD your God will give you this land-a place to rest.'
Jos 1:15 take possession of the land the LORD your God is going to give them. Then they will have a place to rest like you do. After that, you may go back and take possession of the land east of the Jordan River which the LORD'S servant Moses gave you."
Jos 1:16 The people responded to Joshua, "We'll do everything you tell us and go wherever you send us.
Jos 1:17 We will obey you as we obeyed Moses. May the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses.
Jos 1:18 Whoever rebels against your authority or does not obey your orders will be put to death. Just be strong and courageous!"
Eph 1:1 From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God's will. To God's holy and faithful people who are united with Christ in the city of Ephesus.
Eph 1:2 Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours!
Eph 1:3 Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Through Christ, God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing that heaven has to offer.
Eph 1:4 Before the creation of the world, he chose us through Christ to be holy and perfect in his presence.
Eph 1:5 Because of his love he had already decided to adopt us through Jesus Christ. He freely chose to do this
Eph 1:6 so that the kindness he had given us in his dear Son would be praised and given glory.
Eph 1:7 Through the blood of his Son, we are set free from our sins. God forgives our failures because of his overflowing kindness.
Eph 1:8 He poured out his kindness by giving us every kind of wisdom and insight
Eph 1:9 when he revealed the mystery of his plan to us. He had decided to do this through Christ.
Eph 1:10 He planned to bring all of history to its goal in Christ. Then Christ would be the head of everything in heaven and on earth.
Eph 1:11 God also decided ahead of time to choose us through Christ according to his plan, which makes everything work the way he intends.
Eph 1:12 He planned all of this so that we who had already focused our hope on Christ would praise him and give him glory.
Eph 1:13 You heard and believed the message of truth, the Good News that he has saved you. In him you were sealed with the Holy Spirit whom he promised.
Eph 1:14 This Holy Spirit is the guarantee that we will receive our inheritance. We have this guarantee until we are set free to belong to him. God receives praise and glory for this.
Eph 1:15 I, too, have heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people. For this reason
Eph 1:16 I never stop thanking God for you. I always remember you in my prayers.
Eph 1:17 I pray that the glorious Father, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know Christ better.
Eph 1:18 Then you will have deeper insight. You will know the confidence that he calls you to have and the glorious wealth that God's people will inherit.
Eph 1:19 You will also know the unlimited greatness of his power as it works with might and strength for us, the believers.
Eph 1:20 He worked with that same power in Christ when he brought him back to life and gave him the highest position in heaven.
Eph 1:21 He is far above all rulers, authorities, powers, lords, and all other names that can be named, not only in this present world but also in the world to come.
Eph 1:22 God has put everything under the control of Christ. He has made Christ the head of everything for the good of the church.

Tit 1:1 From Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I was sent to lead God's chosen people to faith and to the knowledge of the truth that leads to a godly life.
Tit 1:2 My message is based on the confidence of eternal life. God, who never lies, promised this eternal life before the world began.
Tit 1:3 God has revealed this in every era by spreading his word. I was entrusted with this word by the command of God our Savior.
Tit 1:4 To Titus, a genuine child in the faith we share. Good will and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Savior are yours!
Tit 1:5 I left you in Crete to do what still needed to be done-appointing spiritual leaders in every city as I directed you.
Tit 1:6 A spiritual leader must have a good reputation. He must have only one wife and have children who are believers. His children shouldn't be known for having wild lifestyles or being rebellious.
Tit 1:7 Because a bishop is a supervisor appointed by God, he must have a good reputation. He must not be a stubborn or irritable person. He must not drink too much or be a violent person. He must not use shameful ways to make money.
Tit 1:8 Instead, he must be hospitable, love what is good, use good judgment, be fair and moral, and have self-control.
Tit 1:9 He must be devoted to the trustworthy message we teach. Then he can use these accurate teachings to encourage people and correct those who oppose the word.
Tit 1:10 There are many believers, especially converts from Judaism, who are rebellious. They speak nonsense and deceive people.
Tit 1:11 They must be silenced because they are ruining whole families by teaching what they shouldn't teach. This is the shameful way they make money.
Tit 1:12 Even one of their own prophets said, "Cretans are always liars, savage animals, and lazy gluttons."
Tit 1:13 That statement is true. For this reason, sharply correct believers so that they continue to have faith that is alive and well.
Tit 1:14 They shouldn't pay attention to Jewish myths or commands given by people who are always rejecting the truth.
Tit 1:15 Everything is clean to those who are clean. But nothing is clean to corrupt unbelievers. Indeed, their minds and their consciences are corrupted.
Tit 1:16 They claim to know God, but they deny him by what they do. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit to do anything good.
Phm 1:1 From Paul, who is a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and our brother Timothy. To our dear coworker Philemon,
Phm 1:2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus, and the church that meets in your house.
Phm 1:3 Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours!
Phm 1:4 Philemon, I always thank my God when I mention you in my prayers because
Phm 1:5 I hear about your faithfulness to the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people.
Phm 1:6 As you share the faith you have in common with others, I pray that you may come to have a complete knowledge of every blessing we have in Christ.
Phm 1:7 Your love for God's people gives me a lot of joy and encouragement. You, brother, have comforted God's people.
Phm 1:8 Christ makes me bold enough to order you to do the right thing.
Phm 1:9 However, I would prefer to make an appeal on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an old man and now a prisoner for Christ Jesus,
Phm 1:10 appeal to you for my child Onesimus [Useful]. I became his spiritual father here in prison.
Phm 1:11 Once he was useless to you, but now he is very useful to both of us.
Phm 1:12 I am sending him back to you. This is like sending you a part of myself.
Phm 1:13 I wanted to keep him here with me. Then he could have served me in your place while I am in prison for spreading the Good News.
Phm 1:14 Yet, I didn't want to do anything without your consent. I want you to do this favor for me out of your own free will without feeling forced to do it.
Phm 1:15 Maybe Onesimus was gone for a while so that you could have him back forever-
Phm 1:16 no longer as a slave but better than a slave-as a dear brother. He is especially dear to me, but even more so to you, both as a person and as a Christian.
Phm 1:17 If you think of me as your partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.
Phm 1:18 If he wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge it to me.
Phm 1:19 I, Paul, promise to pay it back. I'm writing this with my own hand. I won't even mention that you owe me your life.
Phm 1:20 So, because we're brothers in the Lord, do something for me. Give me some comfort because of Christ.
Phm 1:21 I am confident as I write to you that you will do this. And I know that you will do even more than I ask.
Phm 1:22 One more thing-have a guest room ready for me. I hope that, because of your prayers, God will give me back to you.
Phm 1:23 Epaphras, who is a prisoner because of Christ Jesus like I am,
Phm 1:24 and my coworkers Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke send you greetings.
Phm 1:25 The good will of our Lord Jesus Christ be yours.

Gen 32:1 As Jacob went on his way, God's angels met him.
Gen 32:2 When he saw them, Jacob said, "This is God's camp!" He named that place Mahanaim [Two Camps].
Gen 32:3 Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in Seir, the country of Edom.
Gen 32:4 He commanded them to give this message to Esau, "Sir, this is what Jacob has to say, 'I've been living with Laban and have stayed until now.
Gen 32:5 I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, and male and female slaves. I've sent these messengers to tell you this news in order to win your favor.'"
Gen 32:6 When the messengers came back to Jacob, they said, "We went to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you with 400 men."
Gen 32:7 Jacob was terrified and distressed. So he divided the people, the sheep and goats, the cattle, and the camels into two camps.
Gen 32:8 He thought, "If Esau attacks the one camp, then the other camp will be able to escape."
Gen 32:9 Then Jacob prayed, "God of my grandfather Abraham and God of my father Isaac! LORD, you said to me, 'Go back to your land and to your relatives, and I will make you prosperous.'
Gen 32:10 I'm not worthy of all the love and faithfulness you have shown me. I only had a shepherd's staff when I crossed the Jordan River, but now I have two camps.
Gen 32:11 Please save me from my brother Esau, because I'm afraid of him. I'm afraid that he'll come and attack me and the mothers and children too.
Gen 32:12 But you did say, 'I will make sure that you are prosperous and that your descendants will be as many as the grains of sand on the seashore. No one will be able to count them because there are so many.'"
Gen 32:13 He stayed there that night. Then he prepared a gift for his brother Esau from what he had brought with him:
Gen 32:14 200 female goats and 20 male goats, 200 female sheep and 20 male sheep,
Gen 32:15 30 female camels with their young, 40 cows and 10 bulls, 20 female donkeys and 10 male donkeys.
Gen 32:16 He placed servants in charge of each herd. Then he said to his servants, "Go ahead of me, and keep a distance between the herds."
Gen 32:17 He commanded the first servant, "When my brother Esau meets you and asks you, 'To whom do you belong, and where are you going, and whose animals are these ahead of you?'
Gen 32:18 then say, 'Sir, they belong to your servant Jacob. This is a gift sent to you. Jacob is right behind us.'"
Gen 32:19 He also commanded the second servant, the third, and all the others who followed the herds. He said, "Say the same thing to Esau when you find him.
Gen 32:20 And be sure to add, 'Jacob is right behind us, sir.'" He thought, "I'll make peace with him by giving him this gift that I'm sending ahead of me. After that I will see him, and he'll welcome me back."
Gen 32:21 So Jacob sent the gift ahead of him while he stayed in the camp that night.
Gen 32:22 During that night he got up and gathered his two wives, his two slaves and his eleven children and crossed at the shallow part of the Jabbok River.
Gen 32:23 After he sent them across the stream, he sent everything else across.
Gen 32:24 So Jacob was left alone. Then a man wrestled with him until dawn.
Gen 32:25 When the man saw that he could not win against Jacob, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that it was dislocated as they wrestled.
Gen 32:26 Then the man said, "Let me go; it's almost dawn." But Jacob answered, "I won't let you go until you bless me."
Gen 32:27 So the man asked him, "What's your name?" "Jacob," he answered.
Gen 32:28 The man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob but Israel [He Struggles With God], because you have struggled with God and with men-and you have won."
Gen 32:29 Jacob said, "Please tell me your name." The man answered, "Why do you ask for my name?" Then he blessed Jacob there.
Gen 32:30 So Jacob named that place Peniel [Face of God], because he said, "I have seen God face to face, but my life was saved."
Gen 32:31 The sun rose as he passed Penuel. He was limping because of his hip.
Gen 32:32 (Therefore, even today the people of Israel do not eat the muscle of the thigh attached to the hip socket because God touched the socket of Jacob's hip at the muscle of the thigh.)
Gen 34:1 Dinah, daughter of Leah and Jacob, went out to visit some of the Canaanite women.
Gen 34:2 When Shechem, son of the local ruler Hamor the Hivite, saw her, he took her and raped her.
Gen 34:3 He became very fond of Jacob's daughter Dinah. He loved the girl and spoke tenderly to her.
Gen 34:4 So Shechem said to his father Hamor, "Get me this girl for my wife."
Gen 34:5 Jacob heard that Shechem had dishonored his daughter Dinah. His sons were with his livestock out in the open country, so Jacob kept quiet until they came home.
Gen 34:6 So Shechem's father Hamor came to Jacob to speak with him.
Gen 34:7 Jacob's sons came in from the open country as soon as they heard the news. The men felt outraged and very angry because Shechem had committed such a godless act against Israel's family by raping Jacob's daughter. This shouldn't have happened.
Gen 34:8 Hamor told them. "My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please let her marry him.
Gen 34:9 Intermarry with us; give your daughters to us, and take ours for yourselves.
Gen 34:10 You can live with us, and the land will be yours. Live here, move about freely in this area, and acquire property here."
Gen 34:11 Then Shechem said to Dinah's father and her brothers, "Do me this favor. I'll give you whatever you ask.
Gen 34:12 Set the price I must pay for the bride and the gift I must give her as high as you want. I'll pay exactly what you tell me. Give me the girl as my wife."
Gen 34:13 Then Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a misleading answer because he had dishonored their sister Dinah.
Gen 34:14 They said, "We can't do this. We can't give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised. That would be a disgrace to us!
Gen 34:15 We will give our consent to you only on one condition: Every male must be circumcised as we are.
Gen 34:16 Then we'll give our daughters to you and take yours for ourselves, and we'll live with you and become one people.
Gen 34:17 If you won't agree to be circumcised, we'll take our daughter and go."
Gen 34:18 Their proposal seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem.
Gen 34:19 The young man didn't waste any time in doing what they said because he took such pleasure in Jacob's daughter. He was the most honored person in all his father's family.
Gen 34:20 So Hamor and his son Shechem went to their city gate to speak to the men of their city. They said,
Gen 34:21 "These people are friendly toward us, so let them live in our land and move about freely in the area. Look, there's plenty of room in this land for them. We can marry their daughters and let them marry ours.
Gen 34:22 These people will consent to live with us and become one nation on one condition: Every male must be circumcised as they are.
Gen 34:23 Won't their livestock, their personal property, and all their animals be ours? We only need to agree to do this for them. Then they'll live with us."
Gen 34:24 All the men who had come out to the city gate agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem. So they were all circumcised at the city gate.
Gen 34:25 Two days later, while the men were still in pain, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords and boldly attacked the city. They killed every man
Gen 34:26 including Hamor and his son Shechem. They took Dinah from Shechem's home and left.
Gen 34:27 Then Jacob's sons stripped the corpses and looted the city where their sister had been dishonored.
Gen 34:28 They took the sheep and goats, cattle, donkeys, and whatever else was in the city or out in the fields.
Gen 34:29 They carried off all the wealth and all the women and children and looted everything in the houses.
Gen 34:30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have caused me a lot of trouble! You've made the people living in the area, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, hate me. There are only a few of us. If they join forces against me and attack me, my family and I will be wiped out."
Gen 34:31 Simeon and Levi asked, "Should Shechem have been allowed to treat our sister like a prostitute?"
Gen 14:1 At that time four kings-King Amraphel of Shinar, King Arioch of Ellasar, King Chedorlaomer of Elam, and King Tidal of Goiim-
Gen 14:2 went to war against five kings-King Bera of Sodom, King Birsha of Gomorrah, King Shinab of Admah, King Shemeber of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
Gen 14:3 The five kings joined forces and met in the valley of Siddim (that is, the Dead Sea).
Gen 14:4 For 12 years they had been subject to Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
Gen 14:5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and his allies came and defeated the Rephaim at Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzim at Ham, the Emim at Shaveh Kiriathaim,
Gen 14:6 and the Horites in the hill country of Seir, going as far as El Paran on the edge of the desert.
Gen 14:7 On their way back, they came to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites and also the Amorites who were living at Hazazon Tamar.
Gen 14:8 Then the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and prepared for battle in the valley of Siddim.
Gen 14:9 They fought against King Chedorlaomer of Elam, King Tidal of Goiim, King Amraphel of Shinar, and King Arioch of Ellasar-four kings against five.
Gen 14:10 The valley of Siddim was full of tar pits. As the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, they fell because of the tar pits, but the other kings fled to the hills.
Gen 14:11 So the four kings took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah, as well as all their food, and left.
Gen 14:12 They also took Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions since he was living in Sodom.
Gen 14:13 Then a soldier who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew what had happened. He was living next to the oak trees belonging to Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and Aner. (These men were Abram's allies.)
Gen 14:14 When Abram heard that his nephew had been captured, he armed his 318 trained men, born in his own household, and pursued the four kings all the way to Dan.
Gen 14:15 He split up his men to attack them at night. He defeated them, pursuing them all the way to Hobah, which is north of Damascus.
Gen 14:16 He brought back everything they had, including women and soldiers. He also brought back his relative Lot and his possessions.
Gen 14:17 After Abram came back from defeating Chedorlaomer and his allies, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Shaveh Valley (that is, the King's Valley).
Gen 14:18 Then King Melchizedek of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was a priest of God Most High.
Gen 14:19 He blessed Abram, and said, "Blessed is Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth.
Gen 14:20 Blessed is God Most High, who has handed your enemies over to you." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Gen 14:21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people, and keep everything else for yourself."
Gen 14:22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I now raise my hand and solemnly swear to the LORD God Most High, maker of heaven and earth,
Gen 14:23 that I won't take a thread or a sandal strap. I won't take anything that is yours so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.'
Gen 14:24 I won't take one single thing except what my men have eaten. But let my allies Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre take their share."
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created heaven and earth.
Gen 1:2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep water. The Spirit of God was hovering over the water.
Gen 1:3 Then God said, "Let there be light!" So there was light.
Gen 1:4 God saw the light was good. So God separated the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 God named the light day, and the darkness he named night. There was evening, then morning-the first day.
Gen 1:6 Then God said, "Let there be a horizon in the middle of the water in order to separate the water."
Gen 1:7 So God made the horizon and separated the water above and below the horizon. And so it was.
Gen 1:8 God named what was above the horizon sky. There was evening, then morning-a second day.
Gen 1:9 Then God said, "Let the water under the sky come together in one area, and let the dry land appear." And so it was.
Gen 1:10 God named the dry land earth. The water which came together he named sea. God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:11 Then God said, "Let the earth produce vegetation: plants bearing seeds, each according to its own type, and fruit trees bearing fruit with seeds, each according to its own type." And so it was.
Gen 1:12 The earth produced vegetation: plants bearing seeds, each according to its own type, and trees bearing fruit with seeds, each according to its own type. God saw that they were good.
Gen 1:13 There was evening, then morning-a third day.
Gen 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the sky to separate the day from the night. They will be signs and will mark religious festivals, days, and years.
Gen 1:15 They will be lights in the sky to shine on the earth." And so it was.
Gen 1:16 God made the two bright lights: the larger light to rule the day and the smaller light to rule the night. He also made the stars.
Gen 1:17 God put them in the sky to give light to the earth,
Gen 1:18 to dominate the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:19 There was evening, then morning-a fourth day.
Gen 1:20 Then God said, "Let the water swarm with swimming creatures, and let birds fly through the sky over the earth."
Gen 1:21 So God created the large sea creatures, every type of creature that swims around in the water and every type of flying bird. God saw that they were good.
Gen 1:22 God blessed them and said, "Be fertile, increase in number, fill the sea, and let there be many birds on the earth."
Gen 1:23 There was evening, then morning-a fifth day.
Gen 1:24 Then God said, "Let the earth produce every type of living creature: every type of domestic animal, crawling animal, and wild animal." And so it was.
Gen 1:25 God made every type of wild animal, every type of domestic animal, and every type of creature that crawls on the ground. God saw that they were good.
Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make humans in our image, in our likeness. Let them rule the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the domestic animals all over the earth, and all the animals that crawl on the earth."
Gen 1:27 So God created humans in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female.
Gen 1:28 God blessed them and said, "Be fertile, increase in number, fill the earth, and be its master. Rule the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that crawl on the earth."
Gen 1:29 God said, "I have given you every plant with seeds on the face of the earth and every tree that has fruit with seeds. This will be your food.
Gen 1:30 I have given all green plants as food to every land animal, every bird in the sky, and every animal that crawls on the earth-every living, breathing animal." And so it was.
Gen 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made and that it was very good. There was evening, then morning-the sixth day.
